A lifelong resident of Brookline and a product of the Brookline Public Schools, Ben Franco understands what it means to give back to the town that has given him so much. The son of Jim and Ellen Franco and brother of Matt, Ben grew up on Amory Street in North Brookline and now lives on Cypress Street.
First elected to the Board of Selectmen in 2014, Ben has supported investment in the public schools, parks, and technology necessary to maintain Brookline’s reputation for offering quality services to all residents. During much of 2016, Ben chaired the River Road Study Committee, which successfully proposed new land use rules that will bring to life a long neglected gateway into Brookline. The revitalization will improve the streetscape and the Emerald Necklace, and will significantly increase tax revenue, with limited incremental cost for Town services.
Prior to his election to the Board, Ben served as a member of Brookline's Advisory Committee and a Town Meeting Member.
Ben has both public and private sector experience in budgeting, finance, management, and oversight. He worked as an aide to the Mayor of Salem, followed by two years at Sun Life Financial where his team developed and implemented a new customer service platform and revised customer response procedures. Ben worked in the Massachusetts State Senate as a budget director and legislative aide. He currently works at Harvard University and is responsible for demonstrating the impact that Harvard has in its host communities and throughout the Commonwealth.
A graduate of Brookline’s Lawrence School and Brookline High School, Ben holds an undergraduate degree from St. Lawrence University and a Master’s Degree from the London School of Economics. He is an elected member of the Brookline Democratic Town Committee.
Ben has a thorough understanding of Brookline’s municipal budget and is a strong supporter of the public schools and a broad range of municipal services. He has expert knowledge of state and municipal relations, local and state budget development, and project development and implementation. Ben is well versed in Brookline, its people, its places, and its government.
